After slipping some unrelated measures to sweeten the pot, House Republicans - joined by many Democrats - voted to extend Section 702 of FISA. That means the US government can continue to spy on Americans without a warrant for three more years. The Fourth Amendment of the Constitution explicitly forbids such activities. Will Americans wake up and realize their government works against them, not for them?
Left with no easy options, President Trump seems to be settling in for an extended period of the US "blockade" of Iran, banking on Iran blinking first. With several ships carrying millions of barrels of Iranian oil stolen by the US military, Iran may shoot rather than surrender.

Last weekend my Institute for Peace and Prosperity hosted another conference here on the Texas Gulf Coast. Not only did we have a full house attending the conference – which is in a way the most important thing – but in this era of profound disappointment and disillusionment, we struck a note of optimism thankfully due to our wonderful line-up of speakers. The main topic of the conference, titled “War is Back on the Menu,” was of course the disastrous decision by the Trump Administration to launch an unprovoked war against Iran – both last June and again on February 28th. Professor Robert Pape from the University of Chicago offered a compelling blueprint to break free of some of the neocon chains that bind us to the Middle East to our own detriment. Let the states in the region manage their own security, he argued. It is not our job to be their policemen. Very importantly, we were fortunate to have had as speakers two individuals who stood up for their principles when putting them aside for expediency – and personal gain – would have been so much easier. Former US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene was, in her own words, “a General in the MAGA Army.” She dedicated her life and plenty of her own money to the cause of electing Donald Trump because she believed he would put America first, as he had promised. She watched that cause betrayed, first with the President’s support for tyrannical central bank digital currency and then with his refusal to release the Epstein files. Finally, she explained, after he had dubbed her a “traitor” for disagreeing with him on these issues, constant death threats forced her to resign her seat in the House. She could have gone along to get along – as most do in Congress. Instead, she stood up for what was right. Likewise Joe Kent, who was serving as director of Counterterrorism at the Office of National Intelligence, could have kept quiet as he watched another war being launched on a mountain of lies pushed by special interests. He was a highly decorated US combat veteran who held a Senate-confirmed position in the Administration. That would have been a golden ticket to any number of future profitable opportunities if he “played his cards right.” Instead, he did what was right. He resigned, writing in a statement that the war was not justified and that it was being fought for Israeli rather than American interests. As could be predicted, Joe suffered the same demonization that Marjorie suffered for standing up for his values and principles. Their courage in making this sacrifice for truth should inspire all of us. It should give us hope. My words of encouragement were simple: we don’t need a majority to change things. A purposeful minority dedicated to the principles of peace and liberty can move mountains. We must stay strong and, importantly, stick together and work together across all party and ideological lines. We must be the big coalition that refuses to sacrifice our principles just as Joe and Marjorie refused to sacrifice theirs. We will be in Dulles, VA, on Labor Day weekend for our tenth annual DC conference. Mark your calendars and be a part of our movement!
Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Fox News that Iran cannot be allowed to continue controlling the Strait of Hormuz. The US is particularly angry that Iran has set up a "tollbooth" to charge cargo ships for the right to pass. While Washington claims that Iran is desperate for an end to the US counter-embargo, Iranian officials are taking their case to the big players in the region. What next?
Despite candidate Trump's campaign promises, the financial status of the federal government continues to spiral downwards. And, as always, more foreign wars have been chosen in lieu of taking care of America. The debt cannot be ignored. Federal entitlements for the American people and the foreign wars cannot continue to coexist. One has to go, and it should be the foreign wars. This should be done before the economic pain becomes unbearable. That time is approaching very quickly.
As we prepare for our Ron Paul Institute Texas Conference this weekend, please enjoy this discussion from our DC conference last year.
Reporters Max Blumenthal & Anya Parampil explain what they saw when they traveled to Iran.
To say that the U.S. federal government is 'a little less than truthful' would be the understatement of the century. It's expected that politicians bend the truth. When it comes to power and money, the incentive to lie is always there; and it's very often chosen. But lying can turn into an addiction ... a chronic addiction. When it's all corruption and lies, the downward spiral of society reflects it.
Once again, President Trump has put off re-starting the Iran war after his deadline passed last night. The impasse for renewed talks is his refusal to lift the embargo of Iranian ports, which Iran sees as an act of war. Meanwhile a new CNN report reveals just how depleted the US military stockpiles really are... With the temporary ceasefire set to expire tonight, there is increasing desperation to get the US and Iran to a second round of talks in Pakistan. Vice President JD Vance is said to be departing today, but thus far there are few signs. The Iranians have demanded an end to the US naval blockade, which they view as a ceasefire violation, before they depart. Trump promises "more bombs" if a deal is not made by the deadline. Who will blink? Anyone?

Last week, President Donald Trump commemorated income tax payments being due by having DoorDash deliver food from McDonald’s to the White House. The delivery was intended to highlight the first year of tax-free tips. Removing tax on tips was part of the 2025 Big Beautiful Bill (BBB). As the sponsor of the first No Tax on Tips legislation introduced in Congress, I was obviously pleased to see this change in tax laws included in the BBB. The bill also included other good tax changes such as removing tax on overtime and extending the 2017 tax cuts. Unfortunately, the bill also increased federal spending and debt. Supporters of the income tax implicitly endorse the idea that our rights are gifts from government and, thus, can be revoked by government at the will of our rulers. Adoption of the income tax signified the abandonment of the belief that individuals have inalienable rights granted them by the Creator. Therefore, those who believe in natural rights must reject income taxation. It is also a violation of the people’s rights when the central bank reduces the value of the dollar, and thus the people’s purchasing power, via the hidden inflation tax. The income tax system’s rejection of natural rights is exemplified by withholding that gives government first claim on an individual’s earnings. The government then may return, via what it calls a refund, some of what was taken. However, a normal refund is when a business returns a customer’s payment because the customer is dissatisfied with the good or service he received, not when a thief returns some of what the thief stole. Withholding was implemented during World War Two as a “temporary” wartime measure. Yet, it is still with us decades later. Milton Friedman, as a young economist, played a role in the US government’s development of withholding. Of course, Friedman went on to become a leading advocate for free markets. He also redeemed himself for his work on withholding by becoming a prominent advocate for ending the military draft. The draft is the worst example of how the government has rejected the principles of the Declaration of Independence. The draft gives government power to force young men (and possibly young women) to join the military and kill or be killed in a war. Contrary to the beliefs of some progressives, support for the draft is not justified by allowing individuals to choose between serving in the military or performing some other form of mandated “service.” While the US does not have a military draft, the infrastructure for the draft remains in place via Selective Service registration. A provision in this year ‘s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) allows Selective Service to automatically register all men between the ages of 18 and 25. This makes it easier than ever for government to reinstate a draft. Income taxes, along with the military draft and other types of mandated “service,” are incompatible with a free society and should be opposed by all who value liberty and peace. As Ronald Reagan said in a statement that could be modified to apply to income taxes, the draft “rests on the assumption that your kids belong to the state…. That assumption isn’t a new one. The Nazis thought it was a great idea.” |
